Chapter 1: Overview
TOSHIBA Management Console manages hardware information in computers that
support SMBIOS, or that conform to CIM (WMI in Windows). It will report any errors.
It can also manage a remote system using remote functions
(provided separately).

2. Features and Functions
TOSHIBA Management Console Version 3.5 has the following features and functions.
(Remote functions are provided separately.)
(1) Hardware information management using WMI
- Serial number, model number, resource management number, BIOS Version, GUID, and configuration management
(2) Software information management using WMI
- Installed Applications, and Installed Device Drivers
(3) Work Group-level simplified remote management (remote function)
- Remote support such as asset information display/shut-down/reboot
(4) Operation standardization with TOSHIBA Console and small footprint (deletion of resident modules)
(5) Simplified maintenance of Toshiba-specific components (remote function)
- Remote BIOS update, and Remote Software delivery
(6) Linkage with management tools
- SMS 2.0 , Unicenter (AMO)
(7) Support of latest industry standards
- WMI (CIM), SMBIOS, Wake-up on LAN , S.M.A.R.T
(8) Fault monitoring functions
- Support of hard disk drive S.M.A.R.T function, battery fault monitoring, physical memory change notification, and SMBIOS event log notification
(9) Export function
- Saves Management Information, Parts Information, Software Information, Standard Information displayed on the TOSHIBA Management Console to a text file.
Chapter 2: Using TOSHIBA Management Console
Activating TOSHIBA Management Console
To activate TOSHIBA Management Console, click the [Start] button and then click the [Programs] folder.
Next, select [Local Console] from the [TOSHIBA Management Console] folder.

At start-up, summary and SMBIOS log information is displayed.
This information is for display only; it can't be changed.
SMBIOS Log and Owner String may not be used with some types of machines.

Machine management information is displayed.
The information is for display only; it can't be changed.

Management Information screen
You can configure what information is shown in this display by clicking the
"Custom" button. By default, only the System, OS, and User information is displayed.
However, when a machine that does not support Owner String is used, the Owner String setting items are not displayed.

The Parts Information tab
Inventory information of main devices is displayed.
The information is for display only; it can't be changed.
Select a device (CPU, memory, display, HDD, CD/DVD, modem, network adapter, Bluetooth, battery pack,
docking station, Monitor, or All) to display information about that item in the list view.

The Owner String tab
The owner information is displayed.
Click the "Set" button to create or change the Owner String. Up to 512 characters
may be specified.
However, when a machine that does not support Owner String is used, this button is not displayed.

The General Information tab
Additional owner information such as System and User Names is displayed.
Click "Set" to change the information. Up to 64 characters can be specified as
the System Name and Phone number, and up to 128 characters can be specified as a
System Location.
The Primary User Name field shows the Owner String, and cannot be changed here.

Software information and driver information are displayed.
The information is for display only; it can't be changed.
The display object is the one displayed in "Add or Remove Programs".

Inventory information provided by the basic part of WfM 2.0 is displayed.
This inventory information is for display only; it can't be changed.

PC Health Button
This PC Health button manually initiates a check of the S.M.A.R.T. hard drive status and a battery fault and memory module attachment/detachment and SMBIOS log addition check.
However, some types of machines do not support checking for the S.M.A.R.T. hard drive status or battery failure or SMBIOS log addition.
The following message is displayed when no problems are detected:

A S.M.A.R.T. disk drive, battery fault, memory module attachment/detachment and SMBIOS log addition check can also be initiated from the Start Menu, as follows:
Click the [Start] button and select the [Programs] folder. Next, select [PC Health] from the [TOSHIBA Management Console] folder.
Note that the S.M.A.R.T. disk drive, battery fault, memory module attachment/detachment and SMBIOS log addition check are also always performed each time you log in to the system.
Export function
The export function saves the following types of information displayed on the TOSHIBA Management Console to a text file:
1) Management Information
2) Parts Information
3) Software Information
4) Standard Information
Export can also be initiated from the Start Menu, as follows:
Click the [Start] button and select the [Programs] folder. Next, select [Export] from the [TOSHIBA Management Console] folder.
Chapter 3: Notes
- Although the disk drive S.M.A.R.T and battery fault monitoring functions are supported,
some failures are not detectable.
- When you are not logged in as administrator, the following restrictions apply:
- Install/Uninstall is not possible.
- Data in the following fields cannot be changed:
- Customized Management Information

- General Information
- System Name setting
- System Location setting
- Primary User phone setting
- Also, when not logged in as administrator, some system information may not be available.
- Windows XP Professional displays no modem and video information.
